WHY SHOULD I FERTILIZE MY TREES AND SHRUBS?

Fertilization, aeration and mycorrrhizae treatments often work hand in hand with the Plant Health Care Program. We fertilize to

  • Improve plant vigor
  • Improve Root development
  • To Reduce Transplant Shock For New Plantings

The Deep Root Injection Method is the primary way fertilizer or mycorrhizae are applied to your soil. Our water soluble formulation of minerals and nutrients is injected into the soil right where the plants absorbing roots can instantly take it. Other methods we use for fertilization are Drill Hole Method, Vertical Mulching, Foliar Application, or sometimes Trunk Injection.

WHAT ARE MYCORRHIZAE?

Mycorrhiza are a symbiotic, beneficial fungi in the soil that when paired with plant absorbing roots, they help increase the plants ability to absorb water and nutrients. These applications are most often used on sites where soil quality or soil compaction is a problem or in cases of root loss due to construction or transplant.

AERATION AND VERTICAL MULCHING

Aeration is a process used on heavily compacted or clay based soils to improve the soil profile in the root zone. Water, nutrients and oxygen cannot penetrate past the compacted soil. The drill hole method is used to break through the compacted layer. Holes are sometimes backfilled with a coarser material to allow better percolation of water, nutrients and oxygen to the roots.

Vertical Mulching is the same process except instead of using a coarse material, a nutrient/mineral based material is used based on the plants current nutrient/mineral needs
